At a glance

With over one million seats equipping the fleets of the major airlines, Safran Seats is one of the world's leading suppliers of seating for passengers, crews and helicopters.

Safran Seats partners with airlines and commercial plane and helicopter manufacturers to bring its customers innovative, high added-value solutions to support them in their business. Its expertise encompasses the entire value chain of its products, from design to assembly and including certification.

Passenger seats

Backed by know-how that extends from economy class to first class and is applied to a wide range of aircraft platforms, Safran Seats is one of the only original equipment manufacturers to offer such a comprehensive portfolio of passenger seats. This depth of range, combined with its ability to offer made-to-measure solutions, equips it to cater for the needs of each airline, whatever their plane's usage profile or their business model: low-cost airlines, 5-star airlines, regional operators, etc.

Safran Seats is well aware of the commercial challenges facing its customers, and offers them innovative solutions to reduce their costs, maximize their profitability, gain in efficiency, stand out from their competitors and improve users' experience of their seating (not only passengers but also crew members and the maintenance and cleaning staff).

Technical seats

Backed by nearly 60 years' expertise, Safran Seats positions itself today as an expert in technical seating for flight crews. The company has a firm command of all of the features, technologies and materials necessary to develop technical seats that combine safety, quality and innovation.

Because each operator has unique needs and is keen to continue using its equipment for as long as possible, wherever it is located (cabin, cockpit, vertical takeoff and landing craft, etc.), Safran Seats designs bespoke solutions tailored to its customers' specific constraints and to drastic operating conditions.

The customer comes first

Safran Seats sets great store by satisfying its customers. This priority is reflected in its extremely demanding approach to its product design and in the guidance and support provided throughout its products' life cycle. Safran Seats provides global technical and sales support through its many support centers and repair units.

An international presence

With 8,000 employees, half of them outside Europe, Safran Seats maintains a strong international presence (United States, Mexico, Tunisia, United Kingdom, China) that lets it deploy its know-how to customers on every market. Its expertise units, distributed over various locations, are specialized by area of excellence, including composites, metallic materials, simulation and computational technologies, etc. The multicultural nature of its teams (over 15 nationalities are represented) is a valuable asset and fosters complementary approaches that help develop differentiating, high added value solutions.

Quality

Visual inspection of the Cirrus seat on the final assembly line

As the primary passenger interface throughout the entire flight, the seats play a critical role in promoting the airline's image and appeal. Hence the extreme care Safran Seats takes to ensure the quality of its products.

Its quality policy meets two major requirements:

  • flight safety: Safran Seats is fully equipped, internally or through its network of subcontractors, with all the testing and certification means necessary to meet the latest airworthiness standards issued by the air transport regulation authorities.
  • development performance: no matter the class (Economy, Premium Economy, Business, First), each step in the manufacturing process has been designed to produce a seat of impeccable cosmetic quality, down to the very last detail.

In support of this policy, Safran Seats is leading an approach which aims to:

  • integrate the feasibility criteria starting at the design phase
  • ensure process traceability
  • deploy continuous improvement tools at all its sites: QRQC, Lean-Sigma, etc.
